Scenes from a Short Winter...

A popular topic of conversation among peeps at any gathering is of course, the WEATHER! The Winter non-event of this year and the early arrival of Spring still have people talking. We continue to discuss that and we remark frequently on today's weather!

For Those of You NOT on FACEBOOK! The BEARS!

I have been asked by some to keep posting on Blog Spot and since you asked so nicely...here goes! Lots have happened here at the Centre of the Universe, but the most requested story is about "my encounter of BEARS of the first kind".

On an afternoon, in early June, I was up a ladder, painting the A-Frame. Frank had gone to the Kelly Kompound to help Kathleen with a problem. Above the din of deer and horse flies buzzing madly around my head, unexpectedly I heard that familiar sound of Rubbermaid plastic being tossed around roughly. Both Kita and George were on the Sun Deck at the front of the house. They were in a state of excitement. I peeked out around the eave of the A-Frame and there she was! Between me and the Garage. My knees wobbled slightly...OMG...and there was still that familiar sound of Rubbermaid plastic...another bear just out of sight.



Do Bears climb ladders? Hmmm....I didn't want to find out. How long will I have to stay here? How long is Frank going to be gone? Will George's caterwauling attract unwanted attention to the Sun Deck? Lots to consider while the Bears explored and rooted through the Garbage.

They didn't find the Garbage that fascinating. No doubt the Cat Poo in a bag on top of the other garbage was a total turn off. I know it definitely turns me off! Long Story shorter...They moved out of sight into the woods behind the wood shed. This was my opportunity to make the hundred yard dash to the cabin. Which I did in record time. Right to my camera and out to the back door..."Here Bears! Come back so I can take your picture!" See Below...

A Yearling...

Momma Bear, fashionably decked out with an ear tag. Obviously, she has been in someone else's yard previously and earned herself the ear deco. Don't they both look healthy and handsome, though?

So far they haven't returned. I have every faith in George's Poo being a permanent deterrent.
